Here is a preview of the future walkthrough for the Electrification Planning recipe.

Extract Geometry for Region of Interest

  1. Open Extract Region Geometry by Name.
  2. Specify the region name.
  3. Select the desired file format (CSV, KMZ, SHP).
  4. Click Run.
  5. Check the result for a map of your region of interest.
  6. Click Download and extract the file defining your region.

Extract Infrastructure from OpenStreetMap

  1. Open Extract Infrastructure from OpenStreetMap by Region Geometry (run similar tool).
  2. Upload your region of interest.
  3. Select buildings and paved roads for the desired infrastructure.
  4. Select polygons for the desired geometry.
  5. Click Run.
  6. Check the result to see a map containing buildings in your region of interest.
  7. Click Download and extract the CSV of building locations from the downloaded archive.

Detect Buildings in Satellite Images

  1. Open Detect Buildings in Satellite Images.
  2. Upload your region of interest.
  3. Upload building locations as extracted from OpenStreetMap, which the tool will use to calibrate the building detection algorithm.
  4. Click Run.
  5. Check the result to see a map of buildings in your region of interest.
  6. Click Download and extract the CSV of building locations from the downloaded archive.

Mark Buildings in Satellite Images

  1. Open Mark Buildings in Satellite Images.
  2. Upload building locations.
  3. Add additional buildings by clicking the map.
  4. Remove polygons that are not buildings by clicking the polygon again.
  5. Click Run.
  6. Check the result to see a map of buildings in your region of interest.
  7. Click Download and extract the CSV of building locations from the downloaded archive.

Exclude Customers Near Line

  1. Open Exclude Customers Near Line.
  2. Upload building locations.
  3. Upload medium voltage lines. If you do not have a dataset of medium voltage lines, upload paved roads.
  4. Set the minimum distance from distribution line to 1 km.
  5. Click Run.
  6. Check the result to see a map of buildings located further than 1km from distribution line, which we will assume are buildings without electricity.

Cluster Buildings into Settlements

  1. Open Cluster Buildings into Settlements.
  2. Upload your building locations.
  3. Specify the maximum distance of a household from the marketplace.
  4. Specify the average number of people per household.
  5. Click Run.
  6. Check the result to see an image of buildings grouped in different colors by settlement.
  7. Check building distance histogram.
  8. Check silhouette score.
  9. Click Download and extract the CSV of settlement locations from the archive.

Estimate Electricity Consumption

  1. Open Estimate Electricity Consumption by Economic Growth (run combined tool).
  2. Upload your settlements with population.
  3. Click Run.
  4. Check the result to see a table of settlements with electricity consumption.
  5. Click Download and extract the CSV of settlements with electricity consumption.

  1. Open Optimize Rural Electrification Technology Choice (run combined tool).

  5. Click Download and extract the CSV of settlements with electrification technology.

  2. Upload your settlements with electrification technology.

  2. Upload your settlements with electrification year.
